Our Solar Panel Installation Process: How to Get Started

Learn about our streamlined solar panel installation process below:

Get Educated

It may sound crazy, but start by educating yourself a little. No doubt that you have already heard a lot of things about solar, some good, some bad, some you aren’t sure about. This is why we provide information and education. We dispel the rumors, lies and misconceptions. Many organizations will gloss over, or even intentionally omit, the cons and overstate the pros. We provide the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. Watch our videos and read our literature. When you’re ready, just let us know, and we’ll walk you through the next steps, or just answer your questions.

Schedule an Introductory Call

Here you will meet your Solar Concierge. This will be the professional who can answer any and all of your tough questions. They’ll also coordinate with your system designer, your finance representative, be a liaison between you and Direct Power’s multiple teams that will work throughout the process. For instance, you won’t have to call and ask about where your project stands, and get passed to the Permitting Team. Your concierge will have all this information for you, and regularly keep you updated. They’ll also be able to answer any questions you may have before, during or after the process. They are not here to sell you anything. They are here to guide you through the experience and present you with options.

Design Your System

Here you will have a brief call or virtual conference with a design specialist. This person is NOT associated with selling you anything. They are paid to provide you with a high quality design that meets what you want. If they can’t give you everything you desire (maybe your roof is too small, or you don’t get enough direct sunlight), they will tell you and present you with additional options. Your concierge will present all the options to you later, once the design team has had time to work up a few designs to meet your goals.

Get Financed

There are so many different ways to pay for solar, but finding the solution that works best for you is the main objective. If you have poor credit, there may be options still available to you. If you want to pay cash, you will receive the best deal possible. But your concierge will work with you and the finance team to determine which options are available to you, and which one is best for your situation.

Get the Ball Rolling

Once you’re happy with the design and select a payment option, we’ll sign some paperwork and get started on making your project a reality. Typically, we’ll collect some documents from you for permitting, and then we’ll get started getting your project approved by your municipality (if needed) and utility. This process can range from a few days to a few months, depending on your municipality, utility company and if you have an HOA. However, we handle all this for you, and your concierge will keep you informed throughout this process. Finally, your concierge will schedule your installation date at a time that is convenient for you and your family.

A team will come out and install your system, typically this is done in a day or 2. The team will arrive, install and commission your system.

Our office will file the appropriate documentation with your municipality and utility company. One or both will inspect the system and give Permission to Operate (PTO). At this point, we’ll turn your system on and you’ll start to see the production on your app and your utility bill.

Monitoring & Maintenance

Our goal is to ensure happy customers and high quality systems. You’ll be able to track the production of your system through your app. We’ll also be watching behind the scenes. If there’s ever an issue, we’ll be right there to help.

When is it a good time to install a new roof-integrated solar system?

The best time to install a new roof-integrated solar system for your commercial property depends on several factors. Here are a few things to consider:

Time of Year

The best time to install a new solar system is during the warmer months when there is less chance of rain or snow. This ensures that the installation process can be completed quickly and efficiently.

Roof Condition

If your property has an old or damaged roof, it is best to replace the roof before installing a new solar system. This will help to avoid any potential leaks or damage to your new solar panels. Also, we’ll be happy to help you bundle your roofing and solar needs and maximize any tax credits, insurance claims and/or incentives.

Energy Needs

Consider your energy needs when deciding on the best time to install a new solar system. If you are planning to use a lot of energy during the summer months, it may be best to install your system in the spring so that it is ready to use when you need it.

With all of those said, the best time to install a new roof-integrated solar system is now!

What are the Benefits of Installing a Roof-Integrated Solar System for my Commercial Property?

Refined curb appeal

Solar panels don’t have to look ugly. Modern solar installations have become almost a work of art in the curb appeal they bring to your property.

An integrated solar roof will maintain all the energy gathering benefits while keeping the aesthetic of your business. Apart from that, it is designed to fit in solar panels with minimal effort, making it almost invisible when observing it from the ground.

Increased Moisture Resistance

Your solar panel system is going to be installed on your property’s roof, requiring it to be strong. For that reason, making sure that your roof will stand the test of time and against nature is important. An integrated roof solar system can provide better resistance against moisture because the installation required is done by bracketing - not drilling - and since no holes will be made, the chances of water penetration will be minimal.

Better Safeguard against nesting animals and pests

Mounted solar panels racks grant space for birds and pests to live in - they love to nest and burrow under a solar panel because they feel protected by it.

What's the downside of it?

Bird nests crowd under solar panels, and that greatly affects the airflow the panel needs to cool itself down. Without proper airflow, overheats can occur and will cause a decrease in energy output. Pests can damage the panels and can cause costly repairs.

If the panels are integrated into the roof, there are effective options available at your disposal such as spikes or mesh to keep these critters out.

Property value boost

A lot of property owners nowadays realize the advantages of having a solar panel system installed on their properties. Apart from the savings and positive environmental impact it can provide, they also started seeing an increase in property value.

Yet, integrated solar panels have the edge of being aesthetically pleasing, preventing your roof turning into a large distraction. In addition to that, it will add extra value to your property because of how modern and seamlessly integrated it looks.
